چکیده

We report the structural and magnetoelectrical properties of La0.7Ca0.3MnO3/BaTiO3 perovskite superlattices grown on (001)-oriented SrTiO3 by the pulsed laser deposition technique. Magnetic hysteresis loops together with temperature dependent magnetic properties exhibit well-defined coercivity and magnetic transition temperature (TC) ̃140 K. DC electrical studies of films show that the magnetoresistance (MR) is dependent on the BaTiO3 thickness and negative MR as high as 30% at 100K are observed. The AC electrical studies reveal that the impedance and capacitance in these films vary with the applied magnetic field due to the magnetoelectrical coupling in these structures a key feature of multiferroics. A negative magnetocapacitance value in the film as high as 3% per tesla at 1kHz and 100K is demonstrated, opening the route for designing novel functional materials. ∗[email protected]

Room temperature multiferroicity in Bi4.2K0.8Fe2O9+δ

Magnetoelectric multiferroics are materials that have coupled magnetic and electric dipole orders, which can bring novel physical phenomena and offer possibilities for new device functions. In this report, single-crystalline Bi(4.2)K(0.8)Fe(2)O(9+δ) nanobelts which are isostructural with the high-temperature superconductor Bi(2)Sr(2)CaCu(2)O(8+δ) are successfully grown by a hydrothermal method....

Magnetocapacitance in nonmagnetic composite media.

The dielectric response in a magnetic field is routinely used to probe the existence of coupled magnetic and elastic order in the multiferroics. However, here we demonstrate that magnetism is not necessary to produce a magnetocapacitance when the material is inhomogeneous. By considering a two-dimensional, two-component composite medium, we find a characteristic dielectric resonance that depend...

Beats of the Magnetocapacitance Oscillations in Lateral Semiconductor Superlattices

We present calculations on the magnetocapacitance of the twodimensional electron gas in a lateral semiconductor superlattice under two-dimensional weak periodic potential modulation in the presence of a perpendicular magnetic field. Adopting a Gaussian broadening of magnetic-field-dependent width in the density of states, we present explicit and simple expressions for the magnetocapacitance, va...

Multiferroicity due to charge ordering

In this contribution to the special issue on multiferroics we focus on multiferroicity driven by different forms of charge ordering. We will present the generic mechanisms by which charge ordering can induce ferroelectricity in magnetic systems. There is a number of specific classes of materials for which this is relevant. We will discuss in some detail (i) the perovskite manganites of the type...

Selective reduction of layers at low temperature in artificial superlattice thin films

Reduction and oxidation in transition-metal oxides are keys to develop technologies related to energy and the environment. Here we report the selective topochemical reduction observed when artificial superlattices with transition-metal oxides are treated at a temperature below 300 °C with CaH(2). [CaFeO(2)](m)/[SrTiO(3)](n) infinite-layer/perovskite artificial superlattice thin films were obtai...
